Don Computing provides finite element analysis (FEA) support for engineering design and assessment in Brisbane and across Australia. We help clients understand structural and thermal behaviour, compare design options and plan validation using a clearly defined modelling scope.
Applications
- Static stress and displacement: assess how a component or assembly responds to defined loads and supports.
- Vibration and modal analysis: investigate natural frequencies and mode shapes to support design decisions.
- Buckling assessment: investigate stability under specified loading and modelling assumptions.
- Fatigue assessment: review cyclic loading where suitable load histories, material information and assessment methods are available.
- Thermal and thermal-stress studies: assess temperature distributions and resulting expansion or stress.
Process
- Agree the decision, model boundaries, acceptance criteria and deliverables.
- Prepare geometry, material models, mesh, loading and constraints.
- Check reactions, mesh sensitivity and the interpretation of local stress concentrations as appropriate to the study.
- Compare agreed cases and report findings, assumptions, limitations and recommended next steps.
Required inputs
Provide CAD or dimensioned drawings, material properties, loads and load combinations, supports, contact conditions and the engineering question. Include the operating environment, available test data, applicable design criteria and any certification requirements. Missing inputs and assumptions are identified before the analysis is agreed.
Deliverables
The agreed package may include a technical report, stress and displacement plots, case comparisons, sensitivity checks and a review meeting. Native files, design revisions and additional analyses are specified in the quotation. Independent certification, detailed design approval and physical testing are separate requirements unless expressly included.
FAQs
Can you work from drawings?
Drawings can support an initial review. Geometry creation, simplification and the information needed for analysis are confirmed during scoping.
Does an FEA report certify a design?
Analysis and certification are different services. The required standards, qualified sign-off and approval process must be established for the particular application.
How long does a study take?
Timing depends on geometry, contacts, material behaviour, load cases and the required validation. A schedule is proposed after reviewing the brief.
Can you compare alternative designs?
Alternative geometries or operating cases can be included in an agreed scope. The comparison criteria and number of iterations should be specified before work starts.
